Malbon Golf Flagship Store: A Fusion of Art Deco, Modernism, and Golfing Heritage in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles design firm 22RE recently unveiled its exquisite interior for the Malbon Golf flagship store on Melrose Place, a remarkable 1,800-square-foot space that harmoniously integrates the city's rich architectural past with the essence of golf. This innovative design concept transformed a typical retail environment into an intimate, residential-inspired setting, featuring a lavish application of cherry wood and strategic nods to the sport.

The store's interior is a journey through three distinct zones, beginning with an inviting patterned stone staircase leading to a grand foyer adorned with a tiered spiral display and bespoke furnishings. The material palette, centered on the striking Costa Esmeralda stone and rich cherry wood, imbues the space with a sense of quiet elegance and comfort. Further within, a central 'living room' space is reached via three green-stone steps and an integrated ramp, where carefully illuminated shelves showcase accessories and footwear. The studio's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the custom metal display rails, which incorporate spiral motifs, subtly echoing the flight of a golf ball. Seating, including built-in benches and hexagonal stools, is upholstered in a pale-green furry fabric, artfully mimicking the texture of a golf course fairway. The back room features cherry screens that open to verdant atriums, while a faceted cove ceiling hovers over a central vitrine. The changing rooms extend this early 20th-century residential theme with high-gloss lacquer finishes, geometric relief panels, and cove lighting. Throughout the store, a curated selection of vintage lighting fixtures by design icons such as Bruno Munari and Vico Magistretti, alongside contemporary pieces, enhances the luxurious and rooted atmosphere.

This thoughtfully curated retail space reflects Malbon's modern identity while honoring the heritage of Melrose Place and the historical connection of golf to Los Angeles. It stands as a testament to 22RE's ability to create immersive and sophisticated environments that transcend traditional retail design.

The Malbon Golf flagship store on Melrose Place exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform a commercial space into a captivating experience, blending historical influences with contemporary aesthetics to foster a sense of belonging and aspiration. This project encourages a deeper appreciation for the interplay between sport, art, and urban living, inspiring visitors to connect with the brand's narrative on a more personal level.
