The acclaimed US design firm, Charlap Hyman & Herrero, embarked on a creative journey to conceptualize the new retail space for the perfume brand Nonfiction in New York City's Lower East Side. Their mission was to forge a design that not only resonated with the historical layers and diverse communities of Manhattan but also subtly echoed the brand's roots in Seoul, particularly the Hannam-dong district. This endeavor aimed to encapsulate a delicate balance between a vibrant urban tapestry and a reflective, serene environment, mirroring the coexistence of past and present that defines both locations.

An Interior Symphony: Red Tiles, Regal Furniture, and Minimalist Accents

Stepping into the Nonfiction store on Orchard Street, visitors are immediately greeted by an enchanting interplay of textures and tones. The design firm expertly integrated lustrous, oxblood-hued tiled flooring, which provides a striking contrast to the softly lime-washed walls. Against this backdrop, minimalist metal shelving units are thoughtfully positioned, showcasing the brand's exquisite perfume collection. Dominating the center of the space is a magnificent mahogany table, a custom creation by Los Angeles designer Doug McCollough, its Queen Anne-inspired aesthetics characterized by delicate, flowing lines and an airy elegance.
