Milanese Charm in Los Angeles: Bar di Bello's Northern Italian Inspired Interior

In the vibrant heart of Los Angeles, a new culinary destination, Bar di Bello, has opened its doors, promising a Northern Italian gastronomic experience wrapped in an exquisitely designed interior. Local design studio 22RE meticulously crafted the 2,000-square-foot space in Silver Lake, aiming to transport diners to a Milanese setting. The design harmoniously blends rich walnut, sophisticated modernist pieces, and a striking red travertine bar, creating an ambiance that is both welcoming and stylish, mirroring the refined simplicity of Italian dining culture. This thoughtful approach extends to every detail, from the layout facilitating effortless movement to the carefully selected lighting and bespoke furnishings, all contributing to a cohesive and memorable environment that celebrates the fusion of Italian flair and Californian lifestyle.

Bar di Bello: A Taste of Milanese Elegance in Silver Lake

In the bustling Silver Lake district of Los Angeles, the newly unveiled Bar di Bello, a Northern Italian restaurant, showcases an interior design that masterfully blends European charm with modern sophistication. Conceived by the innovative local design studio 22RE, the 186-square-meter space exudes a "distinctly Milanese sensibility," as described by its creators. The design team, led by 22RE, envisioned an open dining hall that captures the vivacious spirit of Italian dining and the dynamic energy characteristic of European cafes. This vision materializes through rich walnut millwork, which lines the walls and forms curved banquettes upholstered in russet velvet, providing a sense of intimate comfort. A centrally positioned bar crafted from striking red travertine serves as the visual anchor of the symmetrical dining room, which comfortably accommodates 40 guests. The layout is ingeniously planned to ensure smooth circulation for both patrons and staff, with a defined pathway marked by elegant beige floor tiles guiding movement around the central seating arrangement. Iconic lighting fixtures, including circular cutouts with floral Disderot lights by French designer Olivier Mourgue on the ceiling, along with pendants and table lamps by Swedish mid-century designer Hans-Agne Jakobsson, illuminate the space with a warm, inviting glow. Wall sconces by Italian modernists Afra and Tobia Scarpa, alongside chairs by Vico Magistretti, further imbue the interior with a subtle historical resonance, according to 22RE. Even the finer points, such as frosted glass inserts in circular and lozenge shapes within the kitchen door, contribute to the vintage Milanese aesthetic. Bar di Bello is designed to be a cherished neighborhood fixture for Silver Lake residents, offering an atmosphere that is at once "urban, intimate, and quietly confident." An extension of the dining experience, an outdoor area collaboratively designed by 22RE and landscape architect Sarita Jaccard, is anticipated to open its doors in the warmer months. This project adds to 22RE's impressive portfolio over the past two years, which includes various commercial and retail spaces, demonstrating their versatile design expertise.

The creation of Bar di Bello offers a compelling insight into how design can profoundly influence a dining experience. It underscores the power of interior architecture to not only reflect a specific culinary tradition but also to cultivate an atmosphere that transcends geographical boundaries. The thoughtful integration of Milanese aesthetics with functional considerations highlights a rising trend in restaurant design: creating immersive environments that tell a story and invite patrons to be part of a larger cultural narrative. This project serves as an inspiring example for aspiring designers and restaurateurs, demonstrating that meticulous attention to detail, a clear thematic vision, and the skillful combination of materials and furnishings can transform a simple space into a memorable destination that resonates deeply with its community.
